Smoke near Callaway is a controlled burn: Custer County Emergency Management

KCNI/KBBN received a call from Custer County Emergency Manager Mark Rempe on Wednesday afternoon, in which he indicated that area fire stations and chiefs are receiving many calls from area residents. The calls are concerning smoke filling the sky in the direction of Callaway.

Rempe told KCNI/KBBN that this particular fire that is garnering so many calls is in fact a controlled burn which remains under control as of 2:00 pm Wednesday afternoon. He expanded by saying that while they are aware of the source of smoke in this instance, they have no other current or ongoing burns that they are aware of. Therefore, they still encourage you to call emergency services if a different source of smoke were to appear in the area.
