Smoke, But No Fire, Bessey Ranger District Says
Fog and smoke intermingle causing visibility and olfactory issues outside KCNI/KBBN Friday morning.

BROKEN BOW – The fog settling in Friday morning has given rise to an unsettling smell: the scent of burning trees, eerily reminiscent of October’s Bovee Fire.

The smell is no cause for alarm, the Bessey Ranger District reports in a quick interview with KCNI/KBBN; in an effort to keep the forest and surrounding areas healthy, Nebraska Forest and Grasslands has been planning burns throughout the winter, with one of the largest unfolding this morning.

A map of the planned burns is attached.
