Severe storm knocks out power to 6 communities in KCNI/KBBN area

CUSTER COUNTY – According to multiple reports from eyewitnesses and Custer Public Power District (CPPD), several communities have experienced power outages due to a severe storm sweeping through the KCNI/KBBN listening area early this morning.

As of 5 a.m., affected communities include Broken Bow, Callaway, Oconto, Litchfield, Arnold and Ansley. Custer Public Power is working to restore power to multiple substations that have been knocked out due to the storm that started moving toward the county at 3:30 this morning.

There is no timetable as to when power will be fully restored as of this report; the storm front is moving through the area at a dangerous 60 to 70 miles per hour with potential hail, making repair conditions extremely difficult.

Crews will be working as quickly as possible to bring power back on as soon as conditions are safe. The storm is expected to remain in the area until 5:30 this morning.

Area outages should be reported by phone to Custer Public Power District at (308) 872-2451, or after hours at (888) 749-2453.
