Second Platte Valley Tailwinds Festival Set for Father’s Day Weekend

COZAD- The Platte Valley Tailwinds Festival is back in Cozad for its second year, this Father’s Day weekend. June 14-16 the Cozad Municipal Airport will host hot air balloons, car shows, airplane fly-ins, and more.

The festival will start on Friday, June 14, with social cocktail hour starting at 5:30 p.m. Starting at 6 p.m. there will be live music by The Sweet Water Band. From 6:30 to 8:30 enjoy a steak dinner and burger cookout. At 7 the car cruise takes off and to end the day,  the hot air balloon night glow.

On the second day, gates open at 11 with a car show, airplane fly-in, retail and craft vendors, kids activities, food trucks, and beer garden. With the kids activities there are water slide bounce houses so there will be rooms available to change in. Then live music will go on from 5 p.m. to 7:45 and 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. by Full Denim Jacket and then James Lee Band. Again there will be the hot air balloon night glow to end off the day.

A shuttle service will be provided throughout the day on Saturday to give people a chance to take a look at downtown Cozad.

The final day, Sunday, June 16, will have from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. a Father’s Day champagne brunch. Tickets for the brunch are available on their website, but are not required to attend. The price includes a brunch buffet with non-alcoholic beverages, but there will be Mimosas and Bloody Marys available for purchase.

Each morning of the festival at 6 a.m. there will be hot air balloon flights. On Saturday, tethered rides will be available for $60 per person, cash only. This is weather dependent and Karlie Buss, a planning committee member, says that they will post updates to their Facebook page. They also recommend bringing a lawn chair to set up to watch the balloons.

Another thing Buss mentioned was that there will be on-site camping available for the whole weekend for campers and tents. It will cost $30 for campers and $20 for tents. Shuttles to the Wellness Center in the mornings will be available.

“I’ll just highlight again the on-site camping. We’ve got plenty of room and to me that’s the best way to get the most out of your weekend,” said Buss.
