The public is invited to a scams and fraud education session on Tuesday in Broken Bow, presented by the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office and hosted by Off Broadway Assisted and Independent Living.

From 1:30 to 2:30 PM, at the Vets Building, attendees will learn subjects such as the top ten scams in Nebraska, avoiding imposter scams and identity theft, and how to stop unwanted calls. Refreshments will be provided.

According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the top frauds in 2023 were imposters, online shopping and negative reviews, prizes/sweepstakes/lotteries, investments, and business/job opportunities. Losses grew to an estimated $10 billion with 2.6 million fraud reports noted, up one billion dollars from the previous year.

The FTC encourages educating yourself about imposter scams,  how scammers are using the same marketing methods that legitimate sources use, who scammers are targeting, and spreading the word throughout the community.

Those with questions about Tuesday afternoon’s education session in Broken Bow are encouraged to contact Jodi at Off Broadway at 308-872-2522 or by emailing [email protected].
