Born on July 30, 2023, Savannah Linn carries a weight far beyond her years. Diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, a genetic disorder affecting the lungs and digestive system, Savannah’s journey has been one of both struggle and triumph. Her story not only shines a light on the challenges faced by those with cystic fibrosis but also highlights the unwavering strength of Savannah and her family.

Savannah is the beloved daughter of Kevin and Rachel Linn, whose unwavering love and support have been a constant source of comfort and strength for their daughter. She is also the cherished granddaughter of Doug and Deb Gaston, Pam Gaston, and Monica, with the memory of her late grandfather Frosty Linn residing warmly in their hearts.

Living with cystic fibrosis presents a myriad of challenges for Savannah. Beyond the physical toll, it impacts various aspects of her daily life. From the very beginning, Savannah’s journey has been marked by resilience and determination. Her sister, too, faced her own battle with hip dysplasia, undergoing surgery for it. Savannah herself has slight hip dysplasia, necessitating the use of a device at night to realign her hips. Additionally, she has had to wear a helmet to shape her head, preventing potential jaw problems.

However, the challenges don’t end there. Savannah’s medical needs are extensive and expensive. No longer qualifying for Medicaid, her family bears the weight of hefty medication costs. Enzymes must be administered before every meal or bottle, and she requires breathing treatments and lung therapies twice daily. Her pancreas not functioning correctly adds another layer of complexity, requiring a daily regimen to ensure her health.

Navigating the complexities of Savannah’s condition requires specialized care, with all medical visits taking place at Children’s Hospital in Omaha due to the severity of her cystic fibrosis. This necessity adds an additional layer of strain on the family, requiring travel and time away from home.

The impact of Savannah’s condition also reverberates through her family’s work and social life. Her weakened immune system means both Savannah and her sister, Sawyer, are unable to attend daycare, necessitating adjustments in their parents’ work schedules. Rachel, who works as an LPN, has tailored her schedule to work three evenings a week and every other weekend at a nursing home, balancing the demands of her profession with the needs of her family. Kevin, serving as an assistant manager at Mead Lumber in York, juggles his responsibilities, working five days a week and every other Saturday.

In the face of these challenges, the community has rallied around Savannah and her family, offering support and solidarity. Savannah’s journey is one of courage, resilience, and unwavering love. Despite the challenges she faces, she continues to inspire those around her with her indomitable spirit. Her story serves as a reminder of the power of community and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
