SARGENT- Friday, June 21, kicks off the Sargent Fair and Chokecherry Jamboree, with the theme “It’s not a typical ____ day.”
Starting on Friday at 7 p.m. is the Ugly Truck Contest in front of the park. It is a $10 entry fee and they want to see the dirtiest and rustiest trucks, with the worst paint jobs. Then at 7:30 is Cruise Night with Post Prom grab-and-go meals.
On Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Venders and Crafts will be in the park. At 11, Little Miss Chokecherry will go on.
Inflatables will be across the street from the park from 12 to 4. Amber Vincent, member of the Sargent Fair Board, says that kids will be able to run across the street between the park and inflatables.
“And they’ll just be there right in front of the park and we’ll have the whole street blocked off from the E-Free Church and then to that intersection, so the kids can just run into there, and there’s nobody going to be able to go through.”
Food Fundraisers open at noon in the park. Then, at 1:30 Post Prom will host pick-a-duck. At 2 the cake walk starts in the park, and at 3 the 4-H Livestock Bingo will go on with 400 squares to choose from. Also at 3, Sargent’s famous chokecherry pit spitting contest will start in the park.
Line-up for the parade will start at 3 and end at 4:30. The parade starts at 5 with the theme “It’s not a typical ____ day.” Some examples include snow, school, golf, crappy, work, rainy, and holiday. Vincent added that the theme is very open ended to fit what you want your float to be about.
Saturday evening enjoy a free-will donation BBQ in the park with proceeds going to the Sargent Fair Board. Entertainment in the park will be Tazy Scott from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Vincent noted that the BBQ is a great fundraiser for the fair board.
“It’s a good fundraiser for the fair board to get money back to do it again next year and it’s really good food.”
Then from 9 to 12 the Alumni Dance will be at the Sargent Community Center with the Drew Phillips Band, a country southern rock band, performing.
Sunday starts off with church in the park at 10:30 a.m. with a pancake feed following. Bingo in the park begins at 12:30. Finally at 1 is the Dennis Seidel Memorial Water Fight on Main Street.
The Sargent Fair and Chokecherry Jamboree is sponsored by Sargent Fair Board with help from S.W.A.T., Sargent Teachers and Staff, Sargent Chamber, and Community. Officer positions are open and they are always looking for new members.
