Salvation Army’s “Backpack Giveaway” looks to prep area kids for academic success

BROKEN BOW – As summer vacation nears its descent, the Custer County Salvation Army will be holding its annual Back-to-School Book Bag and School Supply Giveaway on Monday, July 24 at the Broken Bow Municipal Building.

The giveaway will start at 4:30 p.m. This year, the time has been extended to 6 p.m. to accommodate parents who may need to bring their children after work.

Children will be able to select backpacks and school supplies for free while they remain available.

The annual giveaway, according to the Custer County Salvation Army, is aimed at helping families across the county who otherwise may not be able to cover the cost of back-to-school expenses. Backpacks are supplied by the Salvation Army’s Omaha office, and funds for school supplies are provided by the Cliff Luther Endowment, the annual holiday bell-ringing campaign, and community contributions.

The Salvation Army is currently seeking volunteers for the effort, and those interested should contact Julie Toline at the Broken Bow Police Department at (308) 872-6424. A flyer is attached.
