Public invited to join in the resurgence of Christmas Choir music

The Christmas season will be here before long, and one Custer County tradition is making a comeback to bring an extra dose of joy in 2023.

Choir and singing proponent Lance Bristol told KCNI/KBBN that the joyful noise has been gone for too long.

“With covid and the post-covid we have been quiet for about three years and decided it was time maybe to kick that up again. So what I’m here this morning to do is talk about what I’m going to call this year the Christmas Choir,” said Bristol.

The idea to rejuvenate the choir came about at Bristol’s church during an event that called for choir singing. Bristol said he started making phone calls to others involved in their church’s choirs as well as youth directors shortly after, and they echoed his excitement for a 2023 return.

Practice number one is slated for Wednesday night September 20 at 7:30 pm at the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow with subsequent practices each Wednesday night until performance time.

“Our projected first performances are going to be that first weekend of the advent season; the first Sunday in December is the first Sunday of advent. So it’s a perfect time to kind of get everybody thinking about the real reason for the season” Bristol said.

A simple desire to sing and have a good time with fellow singers is all that’s needed Bristol said. He nodded his head when mention of those who sing in their car or in the shower  was made, speaking on how supportive everyone is. “Just show up, okay? You don’t have to bring anything except your voice and your desire to sing. You don’t have to be the greatest singer. Just come because you like to sing.”

Listen to our full conversation with Lance Bristol on Tuesday during the KCNI Public Affairs show at the beginning of the 10 am hour on 1280 AM and 96.3 FM.
