Public invited to flag retirement ceremony and meal Saturday in Broken Bow

VFW Post 3576 and American Legion Post 126 will team up for their annual flag retirement ceremony on Saturday evening, June 15 at the Veterans Memorial Building on 1st Avenue in Broken Bow.

According to the American Legion, ceremony practices for the disposal of unserviceable flags was passed by the 19th National Convention of The American Legion in New York in 1937. The writing centers on maintaining a reverent atmosphere and ensuring all parts of the flag fully burn down to ashes.

Saturday’s flag retirement will begin at 4 PM, with organizers saying that several thousand flags will be retired. The Broken Bow Lions Club will be serving a meal for attendees from 4 PM until 7 PM.
