Prescribed Burn Near Comstock Breaks Containment On Sunday

A prescribed burn on Sunday, March 27 briefly broke containment requiring a response from local fire departments.

According to Comstock Fire Chief Perry Erickson, fire departments from Comstock, Taylor, and Sargent were dispatched to a grass fire northwest of the 21C Spur/457 Road intersection just after 1:30 PM. According to Erickson, a prescribed burn was taking place on private property when winds gusted higher than forecasted and assisted the fire in breaking the containment of the crews on the scene.

The prescribed portion of the fire burned 400 acres and approximately 150 additional acres burned when the fire broke containment. Erickson said no buildings were ever threatened and no injuries were reported.

Erickson encourages everyone to take extreme caution when outdoors as the smallest spark could start a large fire.
