Preliminary Hearings Set for Custer County Court Cases

A couple of criminal cases involving felony charges were on the September 29th Custer County Court docket.

Roy L. Poff, age 52 of Broken Bow, made his first appearance on the charge of theft by unlawful taking of over $5,000, a Class IIA felony.  The charge stems from events that occurred on June 13th of this year when a pickup and trailer were stolen in Broken Bow, only to be wrecked in Sherman County before another pickup was stolen from Loup City and recovered in Kearney. Matt Furrow was appointed as his attorney and a preliminary hearing in the case was set for October 27th at 3:00 p.m.

Bret M. Samuelson, age 41 of Arnold, was in court for his first appearance with his attorney, Matt Furrow.  Samuelson is charged with one count of child abuse, intentionally causing injury, a Class II felony. The case is from an August 20th report made to the Custer  County Sheriff about a three-year old who suffered a significant injury to her back. Judge Tami Schendt also set the preliminary hearing in this case for October 27th at 3:00 p.m.
