BROKEN BOW, Neb. – Wyatt Woodward was sworn in as Broken Bow’s newest police officer during the City Council meeting on Tuesday evening.

Woodward is a Broken Bow native and graduated from Broken Bow in 2021 and from Peru State College in May of 2025 with a bachelors in Criminal Justice Administration.

“I’ve always wanted to help this community, and being a police officer was a dream of mine so being able to come home and enjoy that is great,” said Woodward.

Council heard an update on proposed upgrades to the Melham Park Disc Golf Course from Ethan Harders. He said his group had raised enough money to buy 18 new tee baskets and provide upgraded signage for the course. Council approved the proposal to purchase and install the new equipment with the assistance of the Broken Bow Department of Parks and Recreation.

Two items were on the agenda regarding the Broken Bow Public Library in Tuesday’s meeting. Council awarded a contract of just over $35,000 to Weathercraft Roofing to replace the library roof. Only one other bid, eclipsing $63,000, was submitted by Spartan Commercial Roofing of Elm Creek but not accepted.

City Administrator Dave Schmidt indicated the needed repairs are somewhat of an emergency, as discussed at a prior meeting.

Library Director Megan Svoboda provided a proposed Volunteer Release and Waiver of Liability. She indicated the waiver was designed to help protect the city as much as possible in the case of an accident.

Lastly, Council approved a notice of substantial completion from JEO Consulting Group and Myers Construction on the Eagle Crest subdivision project. Schmidt indicated that, while there is a small list of items to be done, the primary work has been completed on the site.

The meeting adjourned at 6:20 PM as Council went to executive session to discuss the annual performance reviews of city employees.
