A plan of attack for changes needed at the Anselmo railroad crossing near the Country Partners grain facility was approved by the Custer County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday morning (April 8). The contract for the project was approved last September for a start time sometime in March or April of this year.
Change orders were in front of the board on Tuesday as a result of the railroad being elevated at the project site between six and eight inches since the original plans were drawn up several years ago. The previous specs were stated to not be appropriate for trucks with hoppers, which would mean the roadway needs elevated.

Change order options came in at prices just under $145,000 from the engineer and contractor for the project. In an effort to save the county money, Highway Superintendent Chris Jacobsen presented a solution that would have the county complete subgrade work and a local concrete company (SG Concrete Pros) completing concrete work in the appropriate zones.
Supervisors Anne Gibbons, Tammy Kleeb, James Markham, and Sara Parliament unanimously approved the suggestion, which is expected to save the county somewhere around $70,000 or more.
