Pints for Polio event scheduled for Tuesday night in Broken Bow

Broken Bow Area Rotary invites the public to Pints for Polio tomorrow evening (October 22) at Kinkaider Brewing Company to further the effort to eradicate polio worldwide.

Sub-titled a “Party with a purpose”, Broken Bow Rotarian Robert Staab told KCNI/KBBN the event goes from 5 until 8 PM.

“We’ll be selling Rotary pints for polio glasses that come with a token that you can get a free beer, and that will be $15. Or root beer, if you’re not into the beer thing. Root beer is always good out there too,” said Staab.

According to the World Health Organization, polio (a preventable but un-curable disease) cases have decreased by over 99% since 1988 from an estimated 350,000 cases in more than 125 endemic countries to just two endemic countries as of last year.

Staab said Tuesday’s event in Broken Bow is a part of Rotary’s continued decades-long effort to raise money to eradicate the disease. It is estimated it costs $3 to protect a child from polio.

The Rotary refurbished iron lung will be on display at the event as well, and visitors are encouraged to ask questions not only about the effort against polio but also about Rotary.
