BROKEN BOW, NE – The Custer County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday morning. All board members were present.
Ian Taylor with Great Plains Communications appeared before the board seeking a letter of support from the board so that they may apply for a state funding reverse auction grant to bring more fiber optic service to Custer County. Service would be brought to 51 homes including the airport. The project would potentially begin in September 2024 and testing phases would complete in September 2026. The board approved and voiced their support.

Gary Russell came before the board representing the Broken Bow Township. He told the board that there is a property owned by the county near Mt. Custer Truck Sales and Power Solutions east of Broken Bow off a minimum maintenance road that the township would be interested in for gravel storage and other uses. It was stated that three easements run through the property and it is in a flood plain. The board approved a conveyance of the property to the township.
As a result of budget shortages collectively exceeding $12,000 between the County Board, County Treasurer, and Emergency Manager, the board approved a transfer of funds from the general/misc. fund, which had the balance necessary available.
Also in Board of Equalization talks, supervisors Parliament, Gibbons, Fox, and Bryner all had tax list valuation corrections approved, none were denied.
Christie Trumbull from the Register of Deeds office came before the board regarding a purchase of Fidlar land records software, which would replace the current MIPS program. Trumbull stated that Buffalo County uses the whole program and has for years and has had good things to say about it and that funds for the purchase were in her budget. The board approved Trumbull moving forward toward the initial cost of the purchase, $35,000.
Emory Haynes addressed the board about the reappointment of Michael D. Harvey to the Veterans Service Committee, which was approved for a 5 year term.
Previously approved copying and plotter fees were formalized in the form of Resolution #17-2024, which set prices for black/white and color prints of a variety of sizes.
Just before a short break, the board formalized an agreement that the county would be responsible for costs associated with any problems encountered with courtroom technology equipment after the warranty on the state-purchased equipment was expired.
After the break, the board approved a certification of proper completion for five bridge projects as a part of the state’s bridge-matching program as well as a preliminary engineering service agreement and service agreement supplement for a bridge south of Comstock.
Troy Walz with Nebraska Extension in Custer County presented the board with the Extension 2024-2025 budget, which totaled an increase of just a few hundred dollars compared to this year’s budget.
The board closed Tuesday’s meeting by approving participation in the national opioids settlement with Kroger if the state of Nebraska pursues participating.
