Over $5,800 in scholarships awarded by Broken Bow Elks Lodge #1688

BROKEN BOW, Neb. – Broken Bow Elks Lodge #1688 has wrapped up another year of service and events, culminating with the Elks Scholarship Reception held recently in Broken Bow.

Over $5800 in scholarships and awards were presented to 17 area seniors and youth (see pictures below)

In a recap of the year, the Elks shared the following highlights:

  • $8,500 in cash and goods brought to the lodge area through grants and their own work
  • Veterans seminars/dinners in November served well over 100, plus cash donation to the food pantry
  • $3,500 spent on shoes, socks, and hoodies for schools in lodge area. Plus $450 to the Salvation Army in gift cards.
  • Volunteer team used a grant to provide Healing Hearts & Families with baby items for them and their mothers. Check was also given for needed cash for discretionary needs.
  • Over 260 kids attended the Elks-hosted teen dance.
  • Halloween and Christmas parties
  • Winter wear drive gathered children’s coats. $1,000 was spent on extra coats.
  • Close to 500 deer hides were processed and sent to a tannery to be formed into fingerless gloves for wheelchair bound veterans.
