Quilts of Valor quilter Deb Bryner was privileged to present a Quilt she made to Ramon (Ray) Oeltjen on Saturday afternoon, December 27. Oeltjen was also awarded the 50th Anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War pin. The presentation was at the home of his son Jeff with numerous family and friends present.

Oeltjen was drafted into the United States Army in 1966, completing Basic Training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and Army Training School at Ft. Gordon, GA. He then was stationed at Ft. Ritchey, MD for telecommunications until 1967.

In 1967 Oeltjen was sent to Germany for clerical duties. In July of 1967 he was sent to Vietnam; his job there was in telecommunications. Oeltjen served in Vietnam for a year, returning to the United States in July of 1968.

Oeltjen then was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood where he was a clerk in awards and decorations. Oeltjen was honorably discharged in April of 1969, as a Specialist 5.

The Quilts of Valor Foundation was established in 2003 with a mission to cover Service Members and Veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.

The Quilts of Valor organization thanks Ray Oeltjen for his service to our country and most importantly, says “Welcome Home!”
