OCONTO, Neb.— The tradition of the legendary Oconto Volunteer Fire Department ‘Blowin’ the Doors Off’ barbeque continues tonight (Saturday, June 6) from 5 PM through midnight.
Tickets are available at the door for the evening’s activities, costing $25 for adults and $10 for children ages 5 through 12. Funds raised will support the Oconto VFD and their operation costs. In an effort to show their thanks to their fellow firemen, the department is welcoming first responders through the gate free of charge with a valid ID.
Those who attend will have available to them some of the best barbeque available as all-you-can-eat, prepared by teams from across the state. Live entertainment starts at 5 PM with South Loup Sunrise and continues at 8 PM into the night with Blacktop Pony.
Between the two bands for the night, a raffle drawing will be held. Tickets are $1 each, $10 for 12 tickets, $20 for 25 tickets, or $50 for 70 tickets with a chance to win a grill, a Mossberg combination shotgun, a Henry .22 blued rifle, or a Mills Hardware or Grocery Kart gift certificate. A hand crafted knife from Don Nelson Knives will also be auctioned off.
Buzz leading up to tonight’s gathering has centered around the great opportunity it is for citizens to thank first responders for their always tireless work, especially evident during the recent frequent wildfires.
