Noon Hour Grass Fire In Broken Bow

The Broken Bow Volunteer Fire Department responded to a grass fire on the south edge of Broken Bow early in the noon hour Wednesday, September 6th.  Beverly Kennedy, who lives in the house on the property located at 952 South East Street, told KCNI/KBBN News she heard a crackling noise and smelled smoke and immediately called 911. The fire burned into a pasture just south of Johnson Metal Works. Due to the dry conditions, the fire intensified as it moved into taller grass, but the Broken Bow Fire crew arrived quickly to extinguish the blaze preventing any major damage. Evidence at the scene indicated a squirrel shorted out the power line that ignited the grass.
