BROKEN BOW— First responders were called to an accident at the intersection of Highway 70 and Weissert Road east of Broken Bow on Wednesday afternoon in the 3 PM hour. According to the Custer County Sheriff’s Office, a car and semi were involved in the accident which resulted in the car spinning into a nearby ditch. No injuries were reported and all parties were wearing their seatbelts.
The Kenworth semi and trailer, driven by a Ravenna man, was traveling eastbound on Highway 70 and slowing to turn north onto Weissert Road. A Sargent couple was behind the truck in their car, also driving eastbound on the highway.
As the couple’s car entered the westbound lane to pass the semi, the truck turned north into the intersection resulting in a collision between the left front of the semi’s bumper and the front passenger side door of the car. The car spun out into the east ditch of Weissert road. The driver claimed that she had not seen turn signal lights on the semi until just prior to the accident.

Broken Bow Ambulance evaluated the occupants of the car, who were not transported for further evaluation. The Kenworth sustained bumper damage estimated at $4,000 while the car received extensive damage estimated at $25,000 (resulting in a total loss). The car was towed by Hunter’s Towing.
“There are a lot of trucks on the road right now,” said Custer County Sheriff Dan Osmond. “We are continuing to ask those driving them as well as those driving on the road with them to use an abundance of caution and patience throughout harvest. This accident certainly could have been worse if the parties involved weren’t wearing their seatbelts.”
