Jennifer L. Nielsen, age 51 of Broken Bow, appeared for sentencing in Custer County District Court on Thursday, July 30th.
In May of this year, Nielsen pleaded no contest to an amended charge of theft by unlawful taking of over $1,500 but less than $5,000, a Class IV felony. At that time, Judge Karin Noakes ordered a presentence investigation (PSI) be conducted.
During Thursday’s sentencing, the State and defense said they had reviewed the PSI and accepted the findings. Declining to make a defendant’s statement, Nielsen was sentenced to four years probation, and ordered by Judge Noakes to make restitution to Central Nebraska Medical Clinic in the amount of $9,088.22 by the end of the day. Bond was released and applied to court costs and fees.
Nielsen was originally charged in March of 2025 with two felonies–theft by unlawful taking ($1,500 or more) and theft by deception ($1,500 or more), all allegedly occurring from 2012 to June 2024 while employed by Central Nebraska Medical Clinic. She was accused of taking more than $100,000.
In June of 2025, the State filed an amended complaint in the case alleging the thefts occurred from 2021 to June 2024, and dismissed Count II, theft by deception. Nebraska statutes only allow a 3-year window on such losses and the $9,088.22 restitution amount equals losses from those years.
