New clinic open in Sargent, VCHS named among best places to work

SARGENT, Neb. – Valley County Health System is celebrating expansion and recognition to kick off the summer season. Their new clinic location has opened in Sargent and Modern Healthcare has given them recognition on their list of ‘Best Places to Work’.

New clinic location is open in Sargent

The new Valley County Health System clinic has been open for less than a month in Sargent. PR, Marketing, and HR Manager Megan Johnson and Human Resources Director Danielle Proskocil said the location just made sense.

“We have locations in Loup City, Burwell, here in Ord and when the building came available in Sargent we actually have quite a few staff members that live and work here, live in Sargent and work here. And so it just kind of was an opportunity and opening for us to expand that service. We have a lot of patients that come from Taylor and Sargent and it’s just a really good way for us to kind of meet them halfway and try to make that service more accessible for them.”

Doctor Greg McClanahan is the provider at the Sargent clinic and his nurse is Brittany Myers. Right now the clinic is focusing on student wellness exams, described as a more in-depth sports physical. The vision for the clinic is to help families avoid having to travel long distances with a sick kid or for older patients to receive care without having to find transportation.

Johnson and Proskocil said the community response has been wonderful.

“I know Dr. McClanahan, his nurse Brittany Myers actually was in Sargent as well and they ate at the rescue across the street and he was so blown away by the community coming up to him telling him how excited they were about this, the opportunity to be able to doctor in town and it’s been really positive and really good. I know people are excited so we’re hoping that that translates into appointments and that we can keep things going and maybe even expand the hours that they’re open.”

The Sargent clinic is open on Wednesdays from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Appointments can be made there in person on Wednesdays, by calling Ord at 308-728-4202, or by calling Sargent at 308-527-4300.

VCHS named as one of Modern Healthcare’s Best Places to Work

Valley County Health System is also celebrating again being recognized on Modern Healthcare’s ‘Best Places to Work’ list, which highlights employers across the nation through a rigorous evaluation process that includes an extensive employee survey.

“They recognize about 150 organizations across the nation each year. Typically 75 hospitals and 75 healthcare vendors. And so we are on that list. The first year we made it we were so surprised. And then the second year and the third year have just got better and better,” said Johnson and Proskocil.

The two said that 20 percent of the questionnaire is about the workplace and the benefits they offer, while the remaining 80 percent is based on employee satisfaction through an engagement survey asking for what the staff thinks of their employer.

Johnson and Proskocil said they have great committees at VCHS that “celebrate everything” with the staff. A dip party will be held to celebrate June birthdays, for example. A float will be making its way through the Sargent parade on the 28th of this month as well, and the staff is looking forward to celebrating.
