Nebraska’s Big Rodeo is underway in Burwell for year 103

BURWELL – Nebraska’s Big Rodeo performances got underway Wednesday evening in Burwell, as spectators and competitors head to the grounds to continue a hall of fame level of tradition.

Events for Nebraska’s Big Rodeo and the Garfield County Fair began this past Sunday and eclipse an entire week until this Sunday. A main attraction each year is the rodeo performances, of which three remain for 2024. Performances two, three, and four are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday each beginning at 7:30 PM.

The rodeo offers a unique experience that attendees of other events maybe have not seen before, as announcer Travis Schauda explained.

“At Burwell you have the track, and on that track you’ll have Indian relay races. There’s only about eight to ten rodeos in America that offer that. We talked about the trick riding, we talked about Robbie, we talked about the dinner bell derby which is a long tradition here in Burwell. But then everybody’s favorite is the wild horse race,” said Schauda.

Tonight (Thursday) kids 12 and under get in free with a paid adult, tomorrow is Pink Night, and Saturday is Red Out Night in conjunction with a visit from Nebraska Head Volleyball Coach John Cook.

Events in the coming days surrounding the hours of rodeo performances include the 4-H exhibit hall, the Garfield County Museum being open, commercial and ag exhibits, a carnival and vendors, teen dances, bands in the beer garden, and more.
