Salvation Army receives donation from Nebraska State Bank

It's really incredible. We have been so blessed this year by community support.

A recent dunk tank fundraiser brings in nearly $2,000 to be donated to the local Salvation Army chapter.

At the conclusion of the Crazy Days dunk tank event held Thursday, July 13, in the Broken Bow city square, Nebraska State Bank and Trust (NSB) brought in $748.25. Community members had the opportunity to visit the square, donate $1, and take their best shot at dunking a bank officer. Collectively, bank officers were dunked a total of 83 times! NSB is matching that amount, bringing the total to $1,496.50. On top of that, Marketing Director and East Branch Manager Amber Rynearson says the bank is also including its jean money from the month of June: employees have the opportunity to donate money and wear jeans to work. The grand total comes to $1,861.50.

On Monday afternoon, Nebraska State Bank presented a check to the Custer County Unit of the Salvation Army. Chairpersons Marilyn Moody and Carol Allen said they are grateful for so much community support and help with the Back to School Project.

“It’s really incredible. We have been so blessed this year by community support. I mean, this wonderful donation and then help from the E-Free vacation Bible School children,” Allen said.

Allen estimates that backpacks reach anywhere from 150 to 170 kids of families who otherwise might not be able to afford school supplies this year.

“So not only cash donation but also donations of school supplies which is all very much appreciated. And it sure helps us out a lot,” Allen said.

The book bag and school supply giveaway will take place on Wednesday, August 2 from 4pm to 6pm at the Broken Bow Municipal Building (314 S 10th Avenue).

Book bags, school supplies, and vouchers for school clothing will be distributed. These items are being made available for Custer County school-age children whose families otherwise may not be able to purchase supplies.

Children must be accompanied by an adult, all items distributed while supplies last. This event is made possible by the Custer County Unit of Salvation Army and donations from the community, including E-Free Church Vacation Bible School classes and Nebraska State Bank employees.
