BROKEN BOW – The Nebraska Rural Radio Network Association (NRRA) has released a statement announcing its expansion into Custer County: the organization has reached an agreement to purchase Broken Bow’s KBRY-FM from Mid-Nebraska Broadcasting.
According to the release, Tim Marshall, NRRA CEO, says that the expansion aims to benefit farmers and ranchers throughout central Nebraska. “We are very excited to add KBRY-FM to the existing lineup of NRRA stations across the state. Adding a 15th radio station allows us to continue to fulfill our mission of bringing trusted information to our listeners.”
KBRY-FM, known locally as KBEAR, has first and foremost been a country station, covers an area from Bassett to Holdredge, and from North Platte to Albion.

KBEAR will become the latest affiliate of the Rural Radio Network, which delivers breaking grain and livestock information and agricultural news.
The NRRA is the only farmer-and rancher-owned radio group in the United States and has been serving agriculture since 1948. In addition to market information and agriculture news, the Association provides weather, news, and entertainment on its radio stations.
Ben Steffen, chairman of the Nebraska Rural Radio Association, says the expansion aligns with the NRRA’s mission of providing information to all Nebraskans. “The founding members of the Association had a bold vision when they formed in 1948. Extending our broadcast reach builds on our goal to serve the entire state of Nebraska with critical news and information. We’re excited to welcome the KBRY team to our broadcast family.”
NRRA and Mid-Nebraska Broadcasting reached an agreement on the sale and now await the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approval of the sale later in 2023. NRRA will not take possession of the station until all details are finalized with the FCC.
