Nebraska Lineworkers Rodeo set for Friday at the Custer County Fairgrounds

BROKEN BOW- Lineworkers from all across the state will gather in Broken Bow  for the annual Nebraska Lineworkers Rodeo on Friday, July 19.

The rodeo will begin Friday at 8:30 a.m. at the Custer County Fairgrounds with the opening ceremony. Immediately after the opening ceremony, events will begin.

First, the journeymen events will begin. The first journeymen event will be the Hurtman Rescue. In this event team members will rescue a “hurtman” mannequin from the top of a pole. The next three events are a mystery until the Q&A Thursday afternoon.

While the journeymen begin their events, the apprentices will begin their first event as well. The apprentices will take a written test. This 20 minute test contains 25 questions. The questions will go over the following sections; definitions, CRP, First Aid and AEDs, Vehicle Operations, Tools and Equipment, Overhead Distribution and Transmission, and Underground Lines and Equipment. After the test the apprentices will compete in the hurtman rescue and 2 mystery events.

The final round of events are the Mutual Aid events. In the Mutual Aid events, lineworkers from different districts will work together to finish a task. Immediately following the Mutual Aid Event, the awards ceremony will start in front of the Grandstands.

The Nebraska Lineworkers Rodeo has been going on every year since 2012. This event is free for the public to attend and learn about what lineworkers do to provide electricity.
