BROKEN BOW – A recent partnership between the Nebraska Library Commission and the Nebraska Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired (NCBVI) has improved the services the Broken Bow Public Library provides for patrons with low vision, according to the Library.
NCBVI has provided a 20” ONYX Deskset HD CCTV (electronic video magnifier) to each public library location in Nebraska at no cost. At the Broken Bow Public Library, the magnifier is currently in the public computer access area.
This CCTV is very user-friendly and the NCBVI has created a reference card that explains the simple controls on the attached remote. Most people should be able to sit at the device and use it without any assistance. In many cases, it is as simple as turning on the power button and using the + and – buttons to zoom in and out.
Director Megan Svoboda said, “We are pleased to offer this free service to the public. Vision is something many of us take for granted until it is taken from us. We invite anyone who struggles with their vision to come into the library to check out the ONYX Deskset. It can magnify pictures, print items, as well as smartphones or tablets.”
