Nebraska 4-H Camp Appreciation BBQ 11/6; Sandhills Fire Relief Benefit Dinner & Auction 11/11

DUNNING–On behalf of the Nebraska 4-H Foundation and Nebraska Extension 4-H Youth Development, Nebraska 4-H would like to express its deep gratitude for the immediate response of the hundreds of staff and volunteers–locally and beyond–to the Bovee fire on October 2, 2022.

Firefighters, first responders, and Sandhills community members who have been friends of the Nebraska 4-H Camp are invited to an appreciation BBQ on Sunday, November 6. The event aims to recognize the contributions of so many and honor the community that has been an incredible partner to the Nebraska 4-H Camp for more than 60 years.

Amidst the devastation following the fire at the state 4-H Camp in Halsey, 4-H Foundation director Stu Shepherd looks to the future with hope and optimism. (Click here for the October 10 story and pictures of the fire that destroyed all but one building at the camp.)

“I’m always the forever optimist. When we were up at the camp today, there’s grass coming up through the ashes, there are new pine cones on the ground, and those are all signs of hope that there will be a good tomorrow,” Shepherd told KCNI/KBBN.

A few days following the appreciation BBQ, Sandhills Fire Relief will be hosting a benefit dinner and auction on Friday, November 11 from 5 to 11 p.m. The event will be held at the Thomas County Fairgrounds east of Thedford. There will also be live music when the auction concludes, as well as food provided by Slow Poke BBQ from Oconto.
