BROKEN BOW – The National Weather Service will be holding storm spotter training in the area this week. The trainings are in cooperation with emergency management departments, area volunteer fire departments, and other local community organizations.
No experience is necessary; the National Weather Service encourages those with even a passing interest in severe weather phenomena to seek out training and certification. All training is open to the public and is expected to last between one and two hours.
This year, the National Weather Service is introducing an “Advanced Spotter Course,” which promises to take an in-depth look at the forecasting of an impactful, severe wind event.
The National Weather Service will be offering both advanced and basic storm spotting training in all locations this week.
On Tuesday, April 11, the training will take place in Ansley at the fire hall at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday the 12 promises training in Tryon at its fire hall at 7 p.m., and on Thursday, the National Weather Service’s storm spotting training will happen in Broken Bow’s fire hall at 6:30 p.m.
Attendees will be taught the basics of thunderstorm development, storm structure, features of developing storms, and where storms are likely to form. The National Weather Service also says that what, when, and how to report storm information as well as severe weather safety tips will be covered as well.
Preregistration is not required for any of the four classes. A flyer is attached.
