HALSEY – Fire crews have successfully contained the two slop-overs that occurred yesterday afternoon, according to a statement from the Bessey Ranger District. Although a lightning storm did develop in the late hours yesterday, the storm brought rain that allowed fire personnel to further secure fire lines within the burned area.

The current plan, according to the district, is to reinforce the established control lines and to prevent any further slop-over.  As of 8:00 a.m. this morning, some engines were demobilized, returning the personnel count to 70.

With the two slop-overs yesterday, the number of acres within the burned area has increased; however, personnel are working on mapping the area today so an accurate number will not be known until this afternoon.

As of 8:00 am the Natick fire is 80% contained.  Smoke may still be visible from Highway 2; the Bessey Ranger District urges caution when traveling.

The fire’s cause has still not been determined, but an investigator is still onsite.

The Bessey Ranger District has temporarily closed Forest Road (FR) 212 starting from the HWY 86B Spur to the “Four Corners” where FR 212 meets FR 203.
