Due to what she calls the "lack of substantive answers" State Sen. Laura Ebke—Chair of the Judiciary Committee, which oversees the NSP —has filed a public records request to address "serious concerns about accountability" at the Patrol.
Following a deadly chase and crash which left one man dead, an exclusive investigation by News Channel Nebraska exposed major concerns within the agency that some high ranking officers cannot be trusted.
Just weeks after NCN's report, Gov. Pete Ricketts fired the head of the patrol and suspended six other troopers with pay—those suspensions are ongoing with an estimated cost of $50,000 per month.
While awaiting the results of a special prosecutor's investigation into the aftermath of the the deadly wreck in western Nebraska, Ebke tells NCN she she is considering in-depth hearings and possibly a special investigative committee within the Legislature.
