Monday ‘Halloween Circus’ is legitimate, will go on in Broken Bow organizer says

BROKEN BOW, Neb.— A ‘Halloween Circus’ event that has been advertised through posters in and near the Broken Bow area will in fact happen on Monday (October 13). There has been much speculation in the area, which included the Custer County Ag Society Board as recently as Thursday night when it was said a contract had yet to be signed for the event.

KCNI/KBBN spoke with event organizer John Alberts who said that the circus, which just wrapped up shows in Kansas, will make their way to Broken Bow for the Monday show after performing in Lexington on Sunday night. After Broken Bow, two more stops are scheduled in North Platte and Ogallala before the circus heads to Colorado and Texas.

The main concern for individuals normally ‘in the know’ on promoting community events in the area was that they hadn’t heard anything about the circus besides seeing the posters appear in town just as everyone else had. Alberts put those concerns to rest.

“Well, we’ve been there in the past, with Funtastic (Circus). This is a show for the holiday, the Halloween show,” said Alberts. “It’s a good show. We will be there and it is for real.”

Alberts said the plan is for the show to be inside the indoor arena at the Custer County Fairgrounds. There are no animals in the show, which according to the website includes a unicyclist, clown, juggler, hula hoop artist, magic acts, acrobats and more. The show is scheduled for 4:30 PM on Monday.

KCNI/KBBN later spoke with Ag Society Board President Brian Palmer who said he had just talked to Alberts as well and the show would happen. He added that the show was being allowed to go on due to the possibility of kids being excited for the performance, but that “lack of professionalism” in the future would not be tolerated.
