Mobile food pantry returns to Custer County this Saturday

Crossroads Mission Avenue and Foodbank for the Heartland are teaming up once again to bring a mobile food pantry to Custer County on Saturday.

Starting at 9 AM, items will be available free of charge while supplies last at the Custer County Fairgrounds in Broken Bow at 44100 Memorial Drive.

Daniel Buller, Executive Director of Crossroads Mission Avenue, said that the living cost crunch is on for not only the area but for much of the state and country.

“Living is just expensive. We know there are people who are living on the edge,” said Buller. “We know that a mobile pantry like this can bring a little bit of relief to help people through.”

Those wishing to assist in distributing food on Saturday are encouraged to show up at the site to pitch in starting at about 8 AM. Jobs can include unloading the truck, moving food to distribution lines, placing food in the trunks of vehicles, and taking information from those going through the line in order to measure impact.

Buller said the event on Saturday also serves as an opportunity to help a neighbor by picking up food for those who can’t leave the home or can’t drive.

“We see people coming out all the time who are asking to help a neighbor out. We welcome that, we encourage that. I think that’s what makes our communities in central Nebraska so great is people willing to help each other,” Buller said.
