Mid-Plains Community College announced free tuition for high schoolers

Mid-Plains Community College is now offering free tuition for dual credit early entry classes.

Starting in the fall of the 2025-26 academic year, Mid-Plains Community College will offer high school students enrolled in early entry classes free tuition. MPCC President, Ryan Purdy, said, “The board agreed that we need to be competitive with our peers, and we know that most of our surrounding community colleges have went free as well.” High school students will now only have to cover the cost of course-related fees, such as textbooks and other tools.

Early entry allows high school students to take college-level courses without first obtaining a high school diploma. Purdy also mentioned that taking these classes increases a student’s chance of continuing their education after high school by almost 15%.

Early entry classes may be taken as dual credit or as a separate course load. Students must attend a Nebraska High School or Nebraska Home School to qualify.
