MERNA- With the theme All Roads Lead Home, Merna Heritage Days will have lots of fun on July 5.
Heritage Days start on Thursday, July 3, with the Anselmo-Merna Boosters Golf Tournament. It is an 18-hole, four-person tournament with a $300 registration fee. For more information, contact Spencer Goodman at [email protected] or (308) 643-2224. Also on Thursday is the Little Miss Heritage Days Pageant. It will start at 6 p.m. at the Activities Building Playground.
Saturday starts with a Fun Run/Walk at the track. There will be a 1-mile race around the track and a 5k race on a set route. Registration will be at 7:45 a.m. From 8 to 9 a.m., the A-M School Board will have a free pancake feed at the school. The parade registration will be from 9 to 9:45 in the school cafeteria.
From 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Main Street will host concessions by The Secret Garden and Craft Vendors. The softball tournament will also start at 9:30 a.m. For more information, contact Troy Gilligan at (308) 880-0883.
The parade will line up in the west parking lot of the school. The parade lineup is first-come, first-served. At 10 a.m., the parade will go down Main Street.
At 11 a.m., the Merna American Legion will put on the pedal tractor pull on Main Street. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Four Corners 4-H Club will serve lunch at the community center. From 11 to 3, there will be inflatables on Main Street and Putt Putt Mini Golf on the library lawn.
At 11:30, the basketball skills challenge and water activities will happen downtown. Face painting will be at the community center. From 1 to 3, the photo booth will be up in the community center. BINGO will go on at the Lutheran Church from 2 to 3:30. Starting at 3:30 will be the ping pong ball drop and the big/little races at the city park.
At 5 p.m., the A-M Foundation will host their banquet at the Merna Community Center. Prime rib will be served with musical entertainment by Switchbak. There will also be silent and live auctions. “We had some feedback that we should try in Merna, so we’ve scoped out some places and we’ll give it a try and give it our best effort and see how it goes,” said a foundation member.
At 8 p.m. is the Firemen’s Watermelon Feed at the ball park, and to end the day, at 10 p.m. is the Firemen’s Fireworks.
