BROKEN BOW— Melham Medical Center of Broken Bow provided free sports physicals to 127 student athletes this summer through events in Sargent, Dunning, and Broken Bow. The events were one of the first ‘Community First’ initiatives executed since Melham Medical Center expanded to include the clinic.
Providers from the Melham Clinic traveled to each community to conduct the physicals. Through the waiving of usual cost, the events saved local families an estimated $6,350. Another $300 in donations was divided among the participating schools for an extra dose of local support.
In a release, Melham Medical Center reminded families that Nebraska’s required 7th grade physicals and immunizations are separate from sports physicals. Those appointments can be scheduled through the Melham Clinic, where required vaccinations can also be provided.
They added that sports physicals should not be seen as a substitute for a comprehensive annual wellness exam.
