Two high school wrestling coaches from the KCNI/KBBN listening area have been named award winners for their work during the 2022 to 2023 wrestling season.
Nebraska USA Wrestling announced Ed Schaaf and Caleb Franklin as ‘Boys Coach of the Year’ in classes C and D respectively. They will be recognized and given their award at the annual banquet on July 29th in Grand Island.
Coach Schaaf and his staff had an excellent season this winter, as Broken Bow captured both an NSAA State Dual Championship and an NSAA State Team Championship in class C competition.
Coach Franklin and the Anselmo-Merna Coyotes had a great year in class D, also competing strong at the NSAA State Dual Championships and the NSAA State competition. At the state tournament specifically, A-M finished 4th as a team with 71 points. The Coyotes had two wrestlers appear in championship matches in 2023.
