The 2025 Nebraska state quiz bowl is Wednesday in Hastings and two local teams will be competing in the competition of knowledge. The Callaway and Gothenburg quiz bowl teams are both among the 30 teams from across the state set to compete.
Callaway and Gothenburg both competed in ESU 10 district quiz bowl competition to qualify for state. Gothenburg was crowned district champion, tallying nine wins and only one loss on the day. Callaway was district runner-up, having their only two losses on the day to the champion Gothenburg.
The Loup County quiz bowl team had a strong district competition, falling just short of qualifying for state. Each of their only two losses at districts came to Gothenburg and Callaway, leading to a third place finish at districts. In ESU 16 district competition, Mullen also placed third place as a part of the nine-county competition.
Gothenburg will kick off their first-ever state competition journey against Central City, while Callaway will face St. Cecilia.
Competition runs from 10:30 AM until 4 PM at North Shore Assembly of God Church in Hastings and spectators are welcome. The top three teams will receive recognition at the end of the day.
