GRAND ISLAND, Neb. – The 4-H shooting sports national championship was held recently in Grand Island. Shooters representing Nebraska didn’t have to drive far, and they performed well in their home state.

Youth from across the country descended on the Heartland Public Shooting Park to compete in compound archery, recurve archery, air rifle, air pistol, .22 rifle, .22 pistol, shotgun, muzzleloading, and hunting skills competition.

Air rifle in particular was a strong event for team Nebraska, who were crowned team National Champions. Individually for the team, Makenna Quick placed second, Laney Bohl was third, Gavin Carrizales was fifth, and Lilian DeWitt came in 13th.

The Nebraska shotgun team placed tenth in the country, made up of shooters including Crew Potter, Brooklyn Ridley, Jonas Bergmark, and Dakotah McCoy.

The small bore pistol team also squeezed into the top ten with Zane Meyer, Kaygan Witthuhn, Josie Lehmkuhler, and Kelynn Witthuhn competing.
