Broken Bow City Council will meet tonight (November 12) at the Broken Bow Municipal building starting at 6 PM. A lengthy agenda awaits.
After consent agenda approval, which includes a minutes mistake from the October 8 meeting, council will tackle list of new business items that is 21 topics long.
First, the partial vacation of 9th avenue will be discussed, specifically the first 125 feet south of the 9th avenue and South K Street intersection. The Broken Bow City Council packet states that the area has not been developed to be used as a city road, and that a citizen would like to use the area adjacent to his property for a storage shed and car port. The remaining area would be divided equally between adjacent landowners.
Nuisance properties are back on the agenda tonight, at 118 South 15th Avenue and 139 South 14th Avenue. Hearings and action on the two properties was postponed to tonight’s meeting at the October 8 meeting after a closed session discussion with the property owner.
Council will have the consideration of approving the Broken Bow Ambulance Bylaws for the upcoming year, as well as accepting the bid for 2024-2025 snow removal from Myers Construction at a rate of $115 an hour for weekdays 7 AM to 7 PM and $140 an hour for evenings, all day on holidays, and all day on weekends. The agreement would provide between 1 and 3 dump trucks and operators at the discretion of the city. Up to 8 trucks can be made available with advance notice.
Consideration of reappointing Steve Parr of JEO Consulting as the street superintendent for 2025 will be next, followed by authorizing the signing of the year-end certification of the city street superintendent. JEO Consulting will also be up for appointment as the city engineer for 2025.
S&L Sanitation Service’s sale to a new owner will be up for authorization tonight, followed by an agreement to novate a contract with the new owner. The City of Broken Bow has a first right of refusal in place if S&L Sanitation was sold to a new owner.
Ordinance 1293 and 1294 will be considered, which will set water and sewer rates. Water usage rates will be $2.08/1,000 gallons (City) and $3.41/1,000 gallons (Rural).
Resolution 2024-16, if approved, would allow City Administrator Dave Schmidt to pursue the purchase of the property described as “Broken Bow Armory” (Parcel I.D.: 001236600), which is the National Guard Armory on South 1st Avenue in Broken Bow. Paperwork from JEO Consulting summarizes that the building is in good condition and has extended useful life. The proposed use of the building would determine what modifications or upgrades would be required to meet functional and code requirements.
Last on tonight’s agenda is the authorization of payment to Myers Construction in the amount of $409,535.68 for work completed on the Eagle Crest Subdivision project.
