In the first 6 months of 2024, rainfall amounts were timely and above average, according to KCNI/KBBN measurements. From January through June, the west edge of Broken Bow received 17.60 precipitation.
In July, the timely rains continued with a monthly total of 3.87 inches.
Unfortunately, Mother Nature shut off the faucet in August, delivering only 2.54 inches in the last five months of 2024.
According to the National Weather Service, the annual average rainfall for Custer County is 24 inches. The KCNI/KBBN staff measured 24.01 in 2024, but the quick decrease in late summer and the remainder of the year reduced dry-land crop and hay yields and prompted several grass fires.
During 2024, KCNI/KBBN measured 23.5 inches of snow. The annual snowfall for Custer County is 29 inches.
