July 14th Custer County Court News

Custer County Court was held on Monday, July 14th.

A preliminary hearing for Jared J. Meister, age 38 of Rising City, was continued at the request of the Custer County Attorney and rescheduled for Tuesday, July 22nd at 9:30 a.m. Meister is charged with theft by unlawful taking in an amount over $5,000, a Class IIA felony. The charges stem from an investigation into the disappearance of a blonde bison bull belonging to Mitch and Roxanne Huggins, owners of the Comstock Premier Lodge located in Custer County. According to the Nebraska State Patrol investigator in the case, a guest at the lodge had seen a blonde bison bull mount at a taxidermy in Schuyler, Nebraska and been told that the mount belonged to an individual named Meister. Further investigation led the NSP investigator to believe Meister had committed the felony crime.

In other court news from July 14th, two individuals appeared before Judge Tami Schendt and waived extradition to Texas. Local charges against 46-year-old Ramiro Vileta Rocha were dismissed when he voluntarily agreed to be extradited back to Texas where he is wanted on two separate cases. 45-year-old Douglas Wayne Moulder was arrested in Custer County on a Texas warrant. Moulder also signed extradition papers for his return to Texas. Both will remain in the Custer County Jail until Texas authorities take custody.
