Merna’s Immanuel Lutheran Church will be cooking up a mess of fish this Sunday, September 21 in support of the Orphan Grain Train of Grand Island. Lunch will start at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 328 E Brotherton Ave in Merna at 12:00 PM and run to 1:30.
Orphan Grain Train is a non-profit organization based out of Norfolk, NE that supports disaster areas, overseas orphanages, and shelters. Volunteers gather donations of clothing, medical supplies, food, Christian literature, and other aid for areas in need.
In August, the Central Nebraska chapter in Grand Island sent a shipping container packed with blankets, hygiene kits, clothing, medical equipment and supplies – including 4 children’s wheelchairs – and 47 school desks to Panama.
In addition to fish, potatoes, baby onions, coleslaw, dinner rolls, and desserts will be on the menu. There will be a free-will donation box available to support the Orphan Grain Train Mission. The church reports that Orphan Grain Train is run primarily by volunteers, and over 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
