CUSTER COUNTY, Neb.— The Custer County Historical Society (CCHS) is asking for the help of the public with a rural school buildings preservation project. The undertaking is being pursued ahead of Custer County’s upcoming 150th anniversary.
The project aims to further document the history of rural school buildings that exist or existed inside Custer County borders through individuals with a connection themselves or through a friend or family member they know.
Included with the recent CCHS newsletter was a rural school buildings questionnaire, asking for information such as district numbers, who lived near the school building, and if the building still exists.
Those wishing to help the effort are encouraged to fill out the questionnaire as thoroughly as possible and include any photos and stories that will help paint the historical picture.
Those with questions can call CCHS at 308-872-2203.
