Hillbilly Bash: Arnold Fall Festival is this weekend

The Arnold Community Fall Festival is Saturday (September 14) and the Arnold community is inviting the public to attend from near and far. This year’s theme is Hillbilly Bash, sure to put a unique twist on another batch of fall memories.

Saturday’s schedule begins with a Hillbilly Bash fun run and walk, organized by the Arnold Rotary Club. Participants are invited to the Arnold Recreation Park for a 1.5 mile walk or 3 mile run. Registration starts the morning at 7:30 AM and goes until 8 AM. Those who pre-registered will be able to  pick up their t shirt, while registration the day of for $25 includes water and a snack.

Line up for the parade will start at the Methodist Church at 10:30 AM, with judging shortly after. Prizes for best decorated float and best dressed hillbilly will be awarded by the Arnold Chamber. The parade will start down Walnut Street at 11 AM.

A schedule chock full of activities starts after the parade in the city park. A free will donation lunch will be offered by the CWF 4-H kids, while the park bustles with activities including a rock wall, bounce house, sidewalk chalk art, face painting (sponsored by the Arnold Art Club), and kids games including tosses, a tug of war, and sack races.

Throughout the day Saturday, vendors are being encouraged to set up in the park and maintain hours that work for them.

Those ages 14 and up can get into the hillbilly action with the start of the Hillbilly Olympics for four person teams. Competition will include the very rare wheelbarrow cone ball and hubcap throw, as well as classics like a dizzy water balloon throw and a three legged race.

Two person teams are encouraged to sign up for the Hillbilly Relay events next, to include a tire roll, hillbilly wheelbarrow race, and fence post pound.

The Rialto Theater welcomes everyone through their doors at 7 PM to relax after a day of hillbilly fun while they show “It Ends With Us” on the screen. Admission is $7 for adults and students are $6.

An Arnold tradition, the search for the Aardvark officially began with clues found in Thursday’s Arnold Sentinel newspaper. Those who have found the aardvark can contact Tiff Varney for their prize by calling 308-546-9340.

Those wishing to make donations to help with future fall festival celebrations in Arnold can do so by taking them to Pinnacle Bank.
