Healing Hearts and Families is celebrating its 11th annual gala event, “denim and diamonds”. The gala will start at 5:30 PM on October 4, at the Once Box Convention Center in Broken Bow.
Healing Hearts and Families assists victims of domestic violence and sexual assault by providing the services they need. The organization also works to educate the public through outreach activities and public education programs to increase awareness of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, & bullying.
Healing Hearts and Families reports Nebraska crisis lines received 173 calls per day in 2024 – a call every 6 minutes. In 2024, 422 victims received services thanks to donations to Healing Hearts and Families. Still, not all requests for services can be met. 43% of unmet needs are for emergency shelter.
According to Healing Hearts and Families, donations help fill a host of needs. These include groceries for fleeing families, legal expenses, life-sustaining medications, school supplies, diapers, and other personal hygiene products.
Healing Hearts and Families administrator Suellen Koepke stressed to KCNI/KBBN the importance of the Gala in funding their mission.
“This funding from the Gala is highly important to fill the needs for our families that we don’t get the money for, and the grants,” Keopke said. “And grocery cards, gas cards, just being able to purchase things for them. Or if they have to get something special for their youth, you know, they’re in sports. And because they’re dislocated, they don’t have the finances to get the volleyball shirt or the shoes.”
Tickets to attend the “denim and diamonds” gala are $50 per ticket or $450 for a table seating 10. Event sponsorships may be purchased at $750, $500, $250, and $100 levels. Each sponsorship level comes with different levels of advertising in gala materials. The top three levels come with 10, 6, and 2 tickets to the event, respectively.
