Grain bin fire in Merna: Oct 25

The Merna Volunteer Fire Department was paged to a fire outside of Merna at approximately 1:00 pm. on October 25.

A grain bin dryer had caught on fire, according to Merna Fire Chief Ernie Johnson.

2:10-2:30 “Some material had gotten held up inside the dryer, and it caught on fire and basically, it was sitting there full of corn on fire and we had to get it all emptied out. It just takes time.”

Seven firemen were on scene for approximately three and a half hours and damage was kept to a minimum.

All of the corn was unloaded from the bin, the burnt corn was knocked out from the inside, and the grain bin was cleaned.
