Gothenburg High School was the overall team winner of Saturday’s Bow Invite Speech Meet. The Swedes handily took home the top prize with 524 team points, with participants placing first in 12 of the 20 events. Minden placed second with 222 team points, followed by host Broken Bow with 188 points and two individual champions.
The meet was delayed slightly due to the extreme cold on Saturday morning. With temperatures at or below 0°F on January 24, four of the 24 scheduled teams opted not to attend.

According to event organizer and Broken Bow Music Instructor/Speech Coach Morgan Harms, the cold weather delays and drop-outs “caused some scrambling first thing to re-balance the schedule”.
The performers who were able to attend, however, did not appear to be put out by the weather. Sharply-dressed and well-rehearsed, the speakers competed in individual and team events, including Poetry, Oral Interpretation of Drama, Duet Acting and Informative Speaking, among others.
