Fundraising for new Litchfield fire hall to start on site Saturday

The public is invited to Litchfield on Saturday (September 7) for “Fire & Ice”, a fundraiser for a new fire hall. The event is slated for 3 PM to 5 PM at the intersection of Clifford and Gregory streets.

Litchfield Ambulance Captain Alyssa Reynolds told KCNI/KBBN the land where the new building will be placed was purchased by the village board around 15 years ago. It previously held a residence that had burned down. She said the board has made the push recently for progress to be made.

“So we finally are to the point where they’ve gotten bids, they kind of know what to expect for a cost for a new fire hall. So now we’re starting to raise some money for it,” said Reynolds.

Visitors to the event Saturday can enjoy a bowl of ice cream or a popsicle while checking out the trucks and ambulance and taking photos in firefighter gear. The planned layout of the new hall will be visualized with current units parked on the lot. Reynolds said looking ahead is important, because space is already tight.

“So in the last year we’ve actually added three new fire trucks, or three fire trucks from the forestry service to our fleet. Our rural board has been talking about possibly someday adding a second ambulance. They’d like to get up to that point too. And our current fire hall we can only have six trucks in, so we have three trucks parked elsewhere, they’re not housed in our fire hall.”

Saturday’s event in Litchfield is the first of many fundraisers, Reynolds said. The department has already planned a 3-person golf scramble for September 21 at the Ravenna golf course. Those interested in supporting that event should contact Andrew Reynolds at 308-440-4899 or Mike Beck at 308-224-4557.
